Mission, Texas – On November 7, 2023, the Mission Consolidated Independent School District (MCISD) passed a Voter Approval Tax Ratification Election (VATRE). This election sought to secure supplementary funding for instruction and compensation, contingent upon the approval of voters.

The district’s proposition passed with 1,016 votes for and 968 votes against.

In response to the election results, Dr. Carol G. Perez, Superintendent of Schools, expressed her enthusiasm for the positive impact the VATRE will have on Mission CISD, “The decision to conduct a VATRE underscores Mission CISD's commitment to maintaining and advancing the educational standards in our community. By securing supplementary funds through this tax reallocation, the district aims to fortify its ability to provide a comprehensive and enriching learning experience for our students.”

The success of the VATRE reflects the support of the local community, highlighting a shared understanding of the importance of investing in education. The additional resources are planned to have a tangible impact on various aspects of the school district, ranging from improving the classroom experience to attracting and retaining qualified educators.

The approved VATRE entails transferring 0.0317 pennies from the Interest and Sinking (I&S) tax rate to the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) tax rate. This reallocation is designed to generate approximately $2.7 million in additional funding while maintaining the existing tax rate at $1.1130.

Mission CISD can now move forward knowing that it has the financial backing necessary to continue delivering quality education to the students it serves.
